Pharmacy assistant Phillipa Maika from Slade Pharmacy Richmond has been chosen to represent Victoria at the National Finals of the 2018 Pharmacy Guild of Australia/ Maxigesic Pharmacy Assistant of the Year Award (PATY).
Now in its 12th year, PATY is the premier award for Australian pharmacy assistants, recognising and celebrating the ‘best of the best’ in community pharmacy.
Pharmacy Guild of Australia Training Manager and National PATY Judge Deborah Scholz said: “PATY was created to recognise pharmacy assistants who not only go the extra mile to help their customers, but are also proactive in developing their careers.
“This commitment encourages others to strive for success and actively contribute to the community pharmacy industry.”
Judges picked Phillipa from 17 other state finalists at the Victoria workshop yesterday where each participant demonstrated their pharmacy knowledge and showcased their skills in customer service and leadership.
Phillipa was delighted to be selected as the Victoria winner.
“I spent the most part of the day being blown away at the calibre of finalists so I had started to make peace with the idea that I wasn’t going to win,” she said.
“When my name was read out, I didn’t really react! It’s an extremely humbling feeling after knowing the amazing, intelligent and passionate people I was selected from. It gave me even more respect for receiving this award.”
Award sponsor AFT Pharmaceuticals Pty Ltd General Manager (Aust) Calvin MacKenzie said they are extremely pleased to be the major sponsor of PATY and support the successful futures of pharmacy assistants.
“Congratulations to Phillipa for her achievement as the state winner,” he said. “I am certain she will represent Slade Pharmacy Richmond and Victoria with great pride!”
Phillipa will represent Victoria at the National Finals to be held at the 2018 Pharmacy Assistant National Conference on October 26 at the Gold Coast. The National Winner will take home over $10,000 in cash, prizes and rewards.
