Judges have chosen pharmacy assistant Anita Jones (pictured) from Amcal+ Palmerston Health Centre Pharmacy to represent Northern Territory at the National Finals of the 2018 Pharmacy Guild of Australia/ Maxigesic Pharmacy Assistant of the Year Award (PATY).
Now in its 12th year, PATY describes itself as “the premier award for Australian pharmacy assistants, recognising and celebrating the ‘best of the best’ in community pharmacy”.
Pharmacy Guild of Australia Training Manager and National PATY Judge Deborah Scholz says this award acknowledges and celebrates the important contribution pharmacy assistants make to community pharmacy.
“PATY was created to recognise pharmacy assistants who not only go the extra mile to help their customers, but are also proactive in developing their careers,” Ms Scholz said. “This commitment encourages others to strive for success and actively contribute to the community-pharmacy industry.”
Judges picked Anita from five other state finalists at the Northern Territory workshop yesterday. Each participant was required to demonstrate their pharmacy knowledge and showcase their skills in customer service and leadership.
“I was absolutely shocked that I won,” Anita said. “There were so many great people there and any one of us could have won.
“I went into the day thinking it was a good opportunity to learn and meet other people. To win was a lovely surprise to the end of a really good day with other fantastic state finalists.”
Anita will represent Northern Territory at the National Finals. These take place at the 2018 Pharmacy Assistant National Conference on October 26 at the Gold Coast.
The National Winner will take home more than $10,000 in cash, prizes and rewards.
