Elise Apolloni from Capital Chemist Wanniassa in Canberra has been honoured as the National Telstra Young Business Woman of the Year.
Ms Apolloni’s national recognition follows her success in September when she won the 2017 Telstra ACT Business Woman of the Year award, the Entrepreneur Award and the Young Business Women’s Award.
Pharmacy Guild ACT Branch President Simon Blacker congratulated Ms Apolloni, who is the branch’s Vice-President, on her award.
“Elise is a great example of a community pharmacist embracing the new model of pharmacy, which places a greater emphasis on the delivery of professional services,” he said. “She’s not afraid to challenge accepted conventions to ensure that her patients receive the best possible care and that her business thrives in the tough environment we face today.
“She is constantly developing and improving on existing services, which are targeted to her patients.” Mr Blacker said Ms Apolloni had also integrated mental-health services into the pharmacy.
“She is passionate about ensuring the community and her patients are better informed about mental-health issues and that they can talk to pharmacy staff about these issues,” he said.
He added that Ms Apolloni had extended this interest further than the pharmacy, and was volunteering as a telephone crisis-support worker at Lifeline Canberra and as a phone counsellor for the national Pharmacists’ Support Service, while additionally serving as an instructor for Mental Health First Aid Australia.
